Kevin Mentzel
Women's Coach
Hello All, I am delighted to have been invited to help coach the TCBC Women’s squad this season.
I started coxing at Canford School when I was 13 and continued coxing at Reading University, Thames Rowing Club, and Leander Club whilst at university. I coxed for Downing College, Cambridge, and Cambridge University Lightweights whilst training for ordained ministry and coached numerous Cambridge college crews. I coached at Thames Rowing Club when I was a curate in Fulham and at Eton College when I was a school chaplain. Having recently retired as an Army Chaplain, I have been coaching Junior rowers at Abingdon Rowing Club and Oxford college crews.
I enjoy introducing others to the sport of rowing and developing technique and fitness with rowers as they get into the sport. I am especially keen to teach people to cox - the key individual in the boat! - and, where possible, teach people to scull - the best way of learning good technique, finesse, and efficiency as a rower. I look forward to seeing you on the river soon!
HARRIET TAYLOR
Men's Head Coach
Hi my name is Harriet Taylor and I have been the assistant coach for the trinity men for the last two years and I’m really excited to get the 2021/22 season underway as the men’s head coach.
I have been rowing for the last 9 years, 4 of which have been at Oxford Brookes university boat club. Brookes has not just taught me how to row well but also taught me how to get the best out of athletes as a coach. I feel that the perfect approach to coaching is a good blend of hard work but also enjoyment in order to gain the best results.
I’m really looking forward to putting that approach into practice in the coming months. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate it get in touch.
Maisie Gordon
Women's Coach
Hi, my name is Maisie and I’m really excited to be part of the Trinity college coaching team. I am going into my third year studying sports coaching at Oxford Brookes, which I’ve been completing alongside rowing for Oxford Brookes University Boat Club.
This is my 7th year rowing and I am really excited to start working with the Trinity women’s squad, where I endeavour to motivate and educate each athlete towards perusing their best potential throughout the season. It excites me to picture what great future goals there are to be achieved in our rowing together and what fun there is to be enjoyed with it along the way.
Kirsty Peakcock
Men's Assistant Coach
Hi all, I'm Kirsty and I will be joining the TCBC coaching team as a men's assistant coach this year and am looking forward to building on the successes of 2021-22.
I learnt to row at TCBC myself back in January 2018, so I know very well what it's like adjusting to this fun but rather intense sport alongside a gruelling academic schedule. During my time at Trinity, I raced in their first women's VIII for several seasons, culminating in 5 pre-gut bumps and Division 1 Blades in the 2021 Summer Torpids races.
I have also trained and competed for the Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club (OUWLRC) and more recently in Wolfson College Boat Club's headship defending crews. I'm really looking forward to returning to TCBC and helping the next generation of rowers develop!
